Campionessa Blows Them Away

May 21, 2015

On Sunday 17th of May, Murphy Racing headed to Kilcoy quietly confident of a successful day. The team was spearheaded by speed demon Campionessa.

In the Kilcoy Exchange Hotel Class 3 Handicap over 1060 metres, Campionessa jumped only fairly away from barrier 6. However, young up and comer Taylor Williams, who was having her first ride for Murphy Racing, had obviously done her form and knew Campionessa needed to be very handy or even lead. Thats exactly what she did as she mustered good speed and kept extremely balanced into the first turn around the tight Kilcoy track. Approaching the home turn in front, Williams still had a strangle hold on the speeding mare and once she released the handbrake it was game over. Campionessa strolled past the winning post in a canter to win by 3.3 lengths.

That was Campionessa's 4th win and takes her prizemoney to just under $60,000. A big congratulation to owner Murray Gain, plenty more wins to come after witnessing the dominant victory. All things going well, Murray's horse Shot Across Thebow will accompany this consistent mare at Toowoomba next week with Taylor Williams to ride.
